🦆 Interaction Nerds by UXA
It’s Carnival Weekend! This week: we’re looking at what happened @XHACKS22. Also: hear the adventurous story from Ginny, our second student in the Spotlight.
👋 TGIF —Have fun at Spring Carnival
CMU’s most anticipated tradition, Spring Carnival, is back! But did you know an aspiring future tradition —— XHacks, took place the past weekend? We invited one of the participants to give you full disclosure of what happened in the front & back. 📸
Leaping forward with our "Spotlight" project, we invited Ginny Zhao, an active jogger with "interdisciplinary" interests in emerging tech, farmer's markets, and thrift shops, to share her story studying HCI @ CMU. 👟
And, as anticipated, we prepared another pack of what's up in UX to spice up the rest of your week. 🧠
👉 The Sidebar — XHACKS 2022 Recap
Last weekend, many exciting ideas emerged during XHack, CMU's first Design Hackathon co-hosted by UXA and AMA. Competitors across multiple schools & disciplined @CMU innovated accessible tech solutions that aim to leave no human behind. 🎖️
One of our newsletter authors, Rebecca Jiang, was a key contributor to the winning team. Click the link below to check out how she spent the intense, rewarding, and adventurous 72 hours. ⌛
✌️ The Spotlight — Ginny Zhao
An imaginer and dreamer with lots to share — who better to describe her time working with all sorts of HCI projects at CMU? 💭
From innovating "Autonomous vehicle service for those with disabilities" to designing a "Peer feedback system for instructors," her experiences stretch wide and far. 🚗

👍 The Inquiry — Ph.D. Life @HCII
In the past few issues, we invited a handful of faculty members and undergrads. What about the other greatest population — Grad students @CMU HCII? 🎓
This week, we invited Bella Yang, a second-year Ph.D. from the department, to share her experience with classes, goal & purpose in HCI research, and advice to prospective undergraduate researchers! 📊

🤟 The End — Stay tuned and dig in
POEM OF THE WEEK
People come into your life for a reason,
A season or a lifetime.
When you know which one it is,
You will know what to do for that person.
