🐒 Campus Compass — Designing Human Centered Software
How can we design technology so it’s easy to use? What does useful technology look like? How can we know if our technology is truly useful? Designing Human Centered Software strives to answer these questions as students learn how to design, prototype, and evaluate user interfaces!
👨💻 05-391 Designing Human Centered Software (DHCS)
🤔 What is DHCS?
DHCS is a course designed to teach students how to design, prototype, and evaluate user interfaces. This course is focused on designing human-centered systems that are useful and usable by their target audiences.
🧐 What do you do in DHCS?
This class is a core course for undergrads in the HCI Minor but open to all undergraduate and graduate students, with either technical or non-technical backgrounds. In DHCS, students cover theory as well as practical application of ideas from HCI. Course work includes lectures, class discussion, homework, class presentations, and group project.
😯 Who should take DHCS?
Students will need a prerequisite of a fundamental computer programming course (15112 or 15122 or 15104 or 15110). Students in the HCI Minor and SCS concentration have priority registration for this course for graduation requirement purposes.
😎 Professor Point - The Future of AR and VR with David Lindlbauer
How do we design for experiences that go beyond 2D screens? How can we use limited technology to find new capabilities and use such capabilities for positive social impact? Take a look at our conversation with Professor David Lindlbauer as we talk about the challenges and solutions to designing for Augmented and Virtual Reality experiences, as well as how to get involved in research in this field! 💡
This is one of the main challenges where we try to work our way around technological constraints to build approaches that are not concerned by these constraints, but actually leverage some of the benefits.
— David Lindlbauer
🤩 Field Trip — Bridging the Gap as a UX Consultant with Gabriela Pardo Aguirre
Out of the spectrum of jobs in the UX industry, have you heard of UX Consulting? How does consulting in UX differ from UX design or research? What skills make a good UX consultant? Join us as we talk to Gabriela Pardo Aguirre, a UX consultant based in Ecuador and career mentor to unlock these insights! 🤩
You have to be this connection between what the user needs, what’s happening with the business, and establishing a mutual understanding between them. You’re this bridge between the two. Without understanding both sides, it’s harder to create the right solutions. Without seeing the whole scope, you can’t provide useful insights.
— Gabriella Pardo Aguirre
