📸 Love Island… or The Hunger Games?
Written & edited by: 👽 Joelle Lee
This summer, Love Island was once again the hottest reality tv obsession of the season. While everyone is talking about the hot bombshells, they fail to notice the important star of the show: the villa itself, which much like the Hunger Games arenas, are designed to keep us — the audience — entertained.
🌷 Design is the Future: Dylan Field @ YC AI Startup School
Written & edited by: 🦑 Kaitlyn Ng

As with many other tech careers, design is immediately threatened by rapidly improving AI. When full-blown prototypes can be generated in seconds, where does that leave us? Dylan Field — co-founder and CEO of Figma — is making the bet that when all the rubble clears, design will be the last field standing.

Popular apps like Notion or Obsidian often require involved setups, taking away time from actual work. Below, we’ll be diving into a few apps/systems — both familiar and new — you can use to manage tasks in ways that are accessible and easy to keep up throughout the semester.
🧑🏫 Advice from your Friendly Neighborhood HCII Professors
Written & edited by: 🐥 Grace Conard
As we head into the new school year, read through some back-to-school advice from a few HCII professors who’ve once been in your shoes. You got this 🌟
“Make time for exercise and laughs with friends, and commit to both. The energy that comes from these activities greatly enhances not only your well being but your creativity, focus, and perspective!”
— Laura Vinchesi, Assistant Teaching Professor
“Find something you can fall in love with and passionately pursue, whether it is music, drawing, programming, data analysis, UX design, cooking, running, or even karaoke.”
— Jason Hong, Professor Emeritus
“With creative projects, you never get it right the first time. Everything is a mess for a while and that's ok. It's part of the process. Everything needs refinement. Things are a mess until they aren't.”
— Dan Saffer, Assistant Professor of the Practice & HCII Associate Director for Outreach
“My fondest memories from university are those that occurred outside the classroom. I made the best lifelong friends (still vacation with them today) and also learned the most, gaining real experience that helped me get a job. Make time for the entire university life -- there is so much to engage in here at CMU!”
— Raelin Musuraca, Associate Teaching Professor & MHCI Program Director
