💓 Editor’s Pick — How to Build a 5-9 That You Can Look Forward To
Written & edited by: 🍳 Evelyn Lui
💡 Transitioning from life as a student into the professional world after graduation can be daunting, and maintaining a well-balanced lifestyle can be a challenging task that many aren’t expecting to face. Luckily, here are some suggestions for how to create a fulfilling post college life!
🚴♀️ Athletic Pursuits
A healthy body is your most valuable resource, but it becomes easy to neglect that fact once you join the work force. After a long day at work, alleviate stress by hiking through nature, running, or simply a walk to the park! There’s a variety of other physical activities you can integrate into your routine as well, such as taking dance classes, yoga, or going to the gym.
📸 Artistic Endeavors
Having creative outlets outside of work can be rejuvenating when it’s guided by personal passion and interest. Don’t let your work be the obstacle to an art project you’ve wanted to start for a long time or an artistic hobby you’re interested in learning such as photography or a new instrument! Make it as casual or as serious as you want—like this guy’s sketchbook!
💼 Personal/Professional Development
For those wanting to stay ahead of the game even outside of work, there’s a lot of things you can do to sharpen your skillset and deepen your knowledge. If you have some free time on your hands, try taking online courses or learn a new language! For some, it can also be fulfilling to spend time contributing back to the community, such as volunteering at local shelters and charity.
🎳 Recreational/Social
Staying connected with friends and family are one of the most important things you can do as you begin working and become busier. Something as simple as meeting up over food and drinks can deepen your relationship. For more exciting activities to do, consider going to concerts, sporting events, or visiting local events such as festivals or farmer’s markets!
While all of the activities mentioned above are great ways to spend your 5 to 9, remember that it’s okay to have a day after work where you simply played video games, took a nap, or watched Netflix. As humans, it’s impossible to spend your time wisely every single day, and we shouldn’t be expected to be productive all the time either. As long as you take time to rest and recover, anything works!
📢 What are some things you’re looking forward to adding to your 5-9?
