🌍 Real World — AI. is a Tool, for Good or Evil.
AI is an incredibly powerful tool and whether we like it or not, it’s here. Media (and all of us) can be quick to harp on the amazing benefits of AI, but we can’t forget that, like all tools, the impacts of AI will depend on the intentions of those who use it.
🔑 When building or designing with AI, it’s our responsibility to preemptively ensure that our designs can’t be used in a malicious way.
🌾 Opinion — How ChatGPT Kicked Off an AI Arms Race
Recently, it feels like you can’t walk down a hallway or scroll through Twitter without seeing ChatGPT mentioned at least twice. I’ll boldly assume that you know what ChatGPT is (if you don’t know, go ask ChatGPT what it is)… but do you know how it was created?
Some fun facts…
🌅 ChatGPT was technically built in 13 days.
💫 Two months after its debut, ChatGPT has more than 30 million users & gets roughly 5 million visits a day.
⚡ It allegedly costs millions of dollars a week and has frequent outages as it runs out of processing power.
In this article, Kevin Roose touches on the creation of ChatGPT, the history of OpenAI, and some open debates on the ethical ramifications of such AI.
❓ To Think On.. What are the secondary impacts of tools like ChatGPT? Who are the people that don’t directly use ChatGPT but face the ramifications of others using it?
If AI is gradually becoming capable of complex human tasks like writing & creating art, where will that put you?
🍀 Industry — AI Technologies for Designers
For designers and designers-to-be, the onset of AI technologies can feel foreboding…. what if AI takes my job? But AI is not some all encompassing superbrain - it has its strengths & weaknesses, just like humans.
Rather than fearing AI, designers can & should learn how to harness AI to augment their own skills. Here are 10 AI technologies you can use to create better design & creative work!
